LATINAN

The Latin Advocacy Network also known as LATINAN started out defending the rights of migrant farm workers in Salinas and has since then expanded to an office in SF. We were brought in to help with this expansion by redesigning their website

Team, Role, and Duration

  • Group project

  • Role: content strategy, IA

  • Contributions: concept sketches, style guide,

  • Duration: 2 week sprint, June 2019

The Challenge

Current users do not have clear avenues to take on the website. Grant foundations need information about what LATINAN does, who they are, and how they succeed. Volunteers need that same information along with a way to get in touch with LATINAN about opportunities.

Business Goals

LATINAN needs to increase funding, so that they can successfully serve more clientele

The Solution

We believe that by prioritizing certain content and reorganizing the website structure, we will give grant foundations and supporters the information they need to support LATINAN.

Who Are We Designing For?

We modeled the site architecture based on our research findings and best practices from other sites

We conducted 3 card sorts, one was open and two were closed. The purpose of our open card sort was to see if content should be arranged differently. The two closed card sorts were to see how to best organize information in predetermined categories gathered from our open card sort results and other non profits site categories. Our card sort results were inclusive, there was not enough information on the site. Our team ended up modeling our site redesign IA based on other non-profits site structures.

How Does LATINAN Measure up Against its Competitors?

When compared to other nonprofits of the same sector, LATINAN lacked content in the following areas: success metrics, volunteers, and staff details

How did We Prioritize Features?

We asked ourselves what are feasible and high-impact features we can implement in this redesign?

What are other Nonprofits doing?

Design patterns across other nonprofit organizations

Non profits in different across different sectors had similar things in common. They featured splashy homepages, clear infographics and success stories. These are all things that we wanted to implement into our design to ensure we catered to user and business needs.
